The Hermit Crab
Ayla, a young successful woman from the city, comes to celebrate a harvest festival in her old hometown. Escaping the loud and colourful atmosphere in the valley she ends up on a lonely mountain where she contemplates whether life is still worth living. By chance she meets hundreds of sheep and two men. Both show her a side of life she had long forgotten. Tim, a young shepherd, is intent on seducing her and by doing so makes her laugh again for the first time in months.
Daniel has lived on the mountain for three years as a hermit. He’s considered a holy man but he knows that he’s merely a mortal trying to get away from his ugly past. As if logic and normality where lost that day, with him Ayla discovers a sense in life that makes no sense at all.
Find yourself lost in a world that seems to be our own but is slightly dreamy and surreal. The writing is snappy and poetic and gives a sense of timelessness. Although text based, The Hermit Crab is a very theatrical piece using live violin music and physical sequences to bring this simple story to life.
